Reviving Obsolete House Parts for a Major Home Builder – Technast Engineering Solutions Delivers
Share
A large home builder came to us with a growing problem. All the custom brackets and components for their window and shade assemblies had been supplied by a single manufacturer that went out of business. Replacements were impossible to source, threatening construction schedules and creating expensive delays on active projects.
We solved it completely — and made the parts better.
What We Did
- 3D scanned the originals — captured every detail of the worn and obsolete parts with absolute precision.
- Rapid prototyped dozens of iterations — using our in-house 3D printing fleet, we produced and tested multiple versions for exact fit and real-world strength.
- Tested each prototype rigorously — strength testing, fitment checks on actual window assemblies, and functional trials until every requirement was exceeded.
- Engineered a stronger version — redesigned the geometry and selected superior materials to create noticeably tougher parts while maintaining 100% compatibility with their existing house designs.
- Prepared for mass production — finalized production-ready files and delivered fully functional replicas ready for high-volume manufacturing.

The photo above shows the full journey:
- Left (gray): The original parts we received.
- Center (purple): “Tons of prototyping” — our iterative development and testing phase.
- Right (black): The final RH MPBR and LH MPBR replicas — stronger, ready for mass production, and already installed in new homes.
In the background you can see our CAD station with the complete engineering drawings we developed for the north shade, south shade, and window assemblies.
The Outcome
The builder now has a reliable, domestic supply of these critical house components. No more hunting for obsolete parts, no more construction delays, and no more risk of field failures. The new parts are stronger, more durable, and cost-effective to produce at scale. What started as a serious supply-chain headache became a permanent upgrade across all their new home projects.
This is exactly what Technast does best: reverse engineering + rapid prototyping + design optimization + production-ready deliverables. Whether you’re a builder dealing with legacy house parts, discontinued hardware, or custom components that no one else can make, we turn impossible into “already shipping to the job site.”
Need the same solution for your construction projects? Bring us the part (or even a broken piece). We’ll scan it, improve it, prototype it, test it, and mass-produce it.
