Modular Underwater GoPro Dolly for Swim Filming

Modular Underwater GoPro Dolly for Swim Filming (ZoomSwim)
Underwater swim filming is only as useful as the stability and repeatability of the camera motion. Handheld footage introduces shake and inconsistent framing; fixed mounts remove motion entirely. Thisproject was built to solve that gap: a modular, corrosion-resistant GoPro dolly designed for controlled tracking shots in pool environments.
The challenge
Pool environments are harsh on gear: chlorinated water accelerates corrosion, and underwater filming often requires low-vibration mounts, flexible configuration, and fast setup/teardown. The target was a system that could run barely submerged or fully underwater while staying portable and durable.
The Technast solution
Technast engineered a modular dolly platform that supports dual GoPro setups, uses mostly plastic construction to reduce corrosion risk, and includes a flexible camera interface to prevent hard contact with metal and help absorb micro-vibration during motion.
Key characteristics
- Dual-GoPro support for synchronized underwater footage
- Corrosion-resistant design (mostly plastic components)
- Fully adjustable geometry (spacing, height, angle, depth use)
- Tool-less disassembly for transport and storage
- Stable rolling platform for consistent tracking passes
Controlled camera motion improves the usefulness of underwater footage by keeping framing consistent across passes. That supports clearer review of stroke timing, body position, and kick mechanics—especially when comparing multiple swimmers or tracking improvement over time.
